Research Interests

The primary goal of my research is to increase our understanding of the capacity of phytochemicals to alter the behavior of cells. Phytochemicals are compounds produced by plants and generally provide them with protection against infection and chemical damage. Many phytochemicals are considered bioactive because they have the potential to positively impact the health of organisms when consumed.

Specifically, I am interested in the molecular mechanisms through which phytochemicals interact with eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells and the subsequent cellular response. As such, my research utilizes a variety of molecular techniques that bridge the fields of molecular genetics, microbiology, cell biology, and immunology.
