Facilities and Athletic Areas

Policies Applicable to the Fitness Center

  • No one will be admitted without a validated University of Hartford ID.
  • All ID's must be swiped by the Front Desk Attendant, or a Student ID # must be input into the IPad.
  • Appropriate workout clothing is required, closed- toe athletic shoes, athletic style bottoms with no buttons or zippers, and tops that cover the full torso and midriff; the Fitness Center staff reserves the right to render final judgment on if something compiles with the dress code posted at all facilities.
  • Fitness Center student workers are available to assist with fitness equipment needs and maintain a safe and sanitary environment for all patrons- however, there are no personal trainers.
  • Users are responsible for wiping down equipment thoroughly after use; paper towels and cleansers are available throughout the Fitness Center.
  • All dumbbells and plates should be returned to their original location after use and in order.
  • The use of chalk is prohibited.
  • Weight clamps/clips are required for all barbell lifts.
  • Food and/or beverages are prohibited in any part of the Fitness Center (besides water). Water fountains are located within the Fitness Center or Sports Center.
  • Cardio equipment is used on a first-come, first- served basis and is limited to (30) minutes per piece during peak times (12-2 PM & 5-8 PM).
  • Use of the Fitness Center is at your own risk. Users should request help if they need to familiarize themselves with the equipment.
  • Any injury or facility/equipment irregularity should be reported immediately to the staff member on duty. Injured users must report to Health Services.
  • All cell phone/Bluetooth conversations must not occur when using workout equipment.
  • Do not slam or drop free weights on the floor.
  • Fitness Center equipment should not be moved.
  • The University of Hartford is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal property.
  • Smoking and tobacco, nicotine, and vaping products are prohibited in the facility.
  • Alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs may not be consumed before or while using the facility. Individuals may not use the facility while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Unauthorized photography and videotaping is PROHIBITED. The Athletic & Recreation Department must give authorization.
  • University of Hartford recreation/athletic facilities are not to be used for personal profit. This includes personal training.
  • Do not lean weights against walls, pillars, mirrors, glass, or equipment.
  • If listening to music, headphones must be worn.

Policy Restrictions

Faculty and staff are not permitted to have guests in the Fitness Center. Family members (spouses, children) cannot use the Fitness Center. Alumni and previous Sports Center Members cannot utilize the Fitness or Sports Center.

Policies Applicable to the Sports Center & Athletic Fields

  • No one will be admitted without a validated University of Hartford ID.
  • All ID's must be swiped by the Front Desk Attendant, or a Student ID # must be input into the IPad.
  • Appropriate workout clothing is required, closed- toe athletic shoes, athletic style bottoms with no buttons or zippers, and tops that cover the full torso and midriff; the Sports Center staff reserves the right to render final judgment on if something compiles with the dress code posted at all facilities- Shirts must be worn at all times.
  • Food and/or beverages (Chewing gum, sunflower seeds, etc.) are prohibited in any part of the Volleyball/Intramural Court (besides water). Water fountains are located within the Fitness Center or Sports Center.
  • Avoid hitting the ceiling and walls with sports equipment.
  • Any damages to university property will be seen on camera.
  • Please clean up any trash you left before leaving.
  • A valid University of Hartford ID must be presented to the Front Desk workers for a basketball rental.
  • Any injury or facility/equipment irregularity should be reported immediately to the staff member on duty. Injured users must report to Health Services. The University of Hartford is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property. Hartford Athletic team practices/games have first priority to the Volleyball/Intramural Court. Please view the Open Court Schedule.
  • Only Student-Athletes may utilize the back entry of the Sports Center.
  • ALL students, including Student-Athletes need to be out of the Sports Center when closing.
  • Smoking and tobacco, nicotine, and vaping products are prohibited in the facility.
  • Alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs may not be consumed before or while using the facility. Individuals may not use the facility while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Unauthorized photography and videotaping are PROHIBITED. The Athletic & Recreation Department must give authorization.
  • University of Hartford recreation/athletic facilities are not to be used for personal profit. This includes personal training.
  • Music can be played, but it must be clean and not allowed to interfere with office workers with the loudness.
  • Non-Studnet-Athletes are not allowed to be in the Athletic team locker rooms or the Basketball Arena whatsoever.
  • Non-Student-Athletes may not use athletic fields and must be approved by Athletic & Recreation Department staff if they are allowed.
  • Announcements, fliers, posters, etc., must be approved by Hartford Athletic & Recreation Department.
  • Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, and roller skates are prohibited.

Alumni and previous Sports Center Members cannot utilize the Volleyball/Intramural Court for recreational purposes.

  • No one will be admitted without a validated University of Hartford ID.
  • All ID's must be swiped by the Front Desk Attendant, or a Student ID # must be input into the IPad.
  • Please clean up any trash you left before leaving. Any injury or facility/equipment irregularity should be reported immediately to the staff member on duty. Injured users must report to Health Services.
  • The University of Hartford is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property. Smoking and tobacco, nicotine, and vaping products are prohibited in the facility.
  • Alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs may not be consumed before or while using the facility. Individuals may not use the facility while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • For the privacy of everyone, the use of audio or visual recording devices, including a cell phone camera, is PROHIBITED in changing areas, rest rooms, or locker rooms.
  • Announcements, fliers, posters, etc., must be approved by Hartford Athletic & Recreation Department.
  • No glass of any kind is permitted in locker rooms.
  • Gender Neutral areas are available inside the Fitness Center.
  • Public restrooms located throughout the Sports Center are not to be used as changing rooms. Changing must take place in the appropriate locker room area.
  • Participants may bring personal locks to secure their belongings.
  • Please be considerate of others when applying hair sprays, body lotions, and powders.
  • Report any unruly or suspicious behavior to the building staff.
  • All patrons must leave the facility promptly at facility closing time. Please plan your locker room time accordingly.
  • Participants of different genders should not be in the opposite gender locker rooms for any circumstances.

  • No person shall enter the water without (2) certified lifeguards being on duty and within viewing distance.
  • Open Food and drink are not permitted in the water or on the pool deck.
  • In the event of a medical emergency, all persons within the facility will be asked to evacuate the pool and stand off to the side, out of the way of staff and medical personnel.
  • Running, horseplay, pushing, acrobatics, wrestling, jumping without caution, towel snapping, improper conduct, or any acts that may endanger any patron is prohibited.
  • Pool users are not allowed to socialize or distract lifeguards while on duty.
  • Spitting, spouting water, blowing your nose, urinating, or defecating in the pool is prohibited.
  • No prolonged underwater swimming for time and/or distance. Competitive or repetitive breath- holding can be deadly and is not permitted. Hyperventilation is absolutely not permitted.
  • All participants in the pool must be wearing designated swimwear attire.
  • Everyone must leave the pool area if lightning or thunder is heard.

Policy Restrictions

Faculty and staff are not permitted to have guests in the Volleyball/Intramural Court for recreational purposes. Family members (spouses, children) cannot use the Volleyball/Intramural Court. Alumni and previous Sports Center Members cannot utilize the Volleyball/Intramural Court for recreational purposes.

Guest/Alumni Policy

Due to safety concerns, guests are not allowed in the Sports Center. If students, faculty, and staff allow guests inside without authorization, Public Safety will be notified. Alumni, non-faculty/staff, and past members are not allowed to utilize the Sports Center for their leisure.
