Wendy Martinson DNP ’24, a devoted nurse of 34 years, is excited to have completed her degree from the Doctor of Nursing Practice program (DNP) in UHart’s College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP).
Wendy was among the first cohort of graduates of the DNP program, which prepares nurses to assume leadership roles in healthcare organizations or contribute to educating future practitioners. The 30-credit fully-online program also features courses in management offered through the Barney School of Business, to give students broader knowledge in areas such as finance and operations.
Wendy says the experience she gained in the DNP program has been invaluable to her career. “The university has provided me with valuable leadership and quality improvement skills that will enhance my current position along with the knowledge and skills necessary to build on my career,” she says. “These experiences have equipped me to be a well-rounded leader and contribute more effectively to my professional growth.”
Wendy has a passion for nursing and, after receiving her degree, plans to stay in her current role. She looks forward to using the new knowledge and skills she’s acquired from the DNP program to make a positive impact within her day-to-day work in the healthcare setting.
Wendy has truly enjoyed her student journey at the University of Hartford. “I have found the professors to be extremely supportive and invested in our success,” she says. “I have also made life-long friends at UHart who have been supportive, encouraging and inspiring.”
Wendy singles out Carol Polifroni as a faculty member whose mentorship made a difference. “Her expertise, guidance and support was instrumental throughout the DNP journey,” Wendy says. “She significantly enhanced my professional development. It was a true pleasure to learn from her.”
