OVERVIEW:
Those working in high-need, trauma-exposed environments, often experience secondary trauma, which can significantly affect their professional and personal well-being. Despite the growing recognition of trauma's impact on students, there is a notable gap in the literature regarding how this trauma affects educators. This quantitative survey aimed to fill that gap by exploring educators' experiences with compassion satisfaction, burnout, and compassion fatigues/secondary traumatic stress (STS). Data was collected from educators in a Connecticut Title 1 school district. The findings provide insights into levels of compassion satisfaction and the prevalence of burnout and STS among educators. By highlighting the critical role that trauma plays in educational settings, this study may contribute to the broader conversation about the importance of supporting educators who work in these challenging environments.
