HAS Faculty Ellen Carey to be a Featured Speaker in International Women's Day Event

HAS faculty Ellen Carey is a featured speaker in an upcoming event on March 8, which celebrates and highlights women in photography. 

In celebration of International Women’s Day, March 8, 2025, the University of Mississippi will feature the work of photography scholars, practitioners, and enthusiasts in a free, online, global, 24-hour symposium dedicated to celebrating the contributions of women to the medium of photography from photography’s announcement in 1839 to contemporary practitioners in 2024. This unique event aims to highlight the diverse and impactful work of women and female-identifying photographers, and those working with photography, across many different cultures and time zones.

NOTE: All time zones enter International Women’s Day, March 8, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. (UTC)

The talks, speakers, and UTC times are listed here. Links provide detailed abstracts, speakers’ locations, academic/professional affiliations, and a brief biography. Carey’s talk, ‘Women in Colour: Anna Atkins, Color Photography and Those Struck by Light’ will be held at 10:20 a.m. (UTC).
