Join us for the Spring Faculty and Staff Inclusive Excellence and Belonging Professional Development Program on Wednesday, March 26 in Wilde Auditorium. This program will feature guest presenter Dr. Victoria Farris.

Consisting of two sessions, the program will give attendees an opportunity to engage in dialogue around reimagining excellence at UHart, and inspire them to help create and promote a culture of respect, inclusion and belonging.

Program Schedule

9:30 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.: Reimagining Excellence

“Success for this university requires that we reimagine what excellence looks like.  Our collective challenge is to invest in what continues to work well, discern that which no longer serves us well, and then boldly embrace new thinking and possibilities for the future. No matter your role, function, or level of responsibility, we all must share in the commitment to reimagine what excellence looks like at the University of Hartford.” – Lawrence P. Ward, President, University of Hartford

Dr. Farris will lead a discussion focusing on the role UHart community members play in creating and fostering a culture of excellence.

10:30 a.m. – Noon: Inclusive Language and Culturally Sustaining Practices

Inclusive language acknowledges the diverse cultures, backgrounds, and identities of the audience. This workshop will focus on developing the skills of emotional regulation and self-management. Attendees will learn communication tools to avoid words, phrases, and tones that may reflect prejudice or perpetuate stereotypes.
