The University of Hartford has learned of the passing last month of Andy Buonano, former executive director of human resources.
Andy arrived at UHart in 1994 as director of HRD and was named executive director in 2002. He remained in that position until his retirement 15 years ago.
Previously, Andy served as manager of corporate human resources at The Travelers, the Hartford-based insurance company where he worked for 21 years.
“I am so grateful that I was able to work with and get to know Andy,” says Jen Conley, who serves today as the University’s assistant vice president of human resources. “He was one of the most genuine, kind, and energetic individuals I have ever met and he was the catalyst for many positive changes in HR when he arrived.”
Conley recalls how highly competitive by nature that Andy was. “You could find him on the racquetball courts at lunch, zipping around ‘racing’ people in his corvette, or planning a Survivor-style HR Team building event (yes, we had to kick each other off the island). Andy will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.”
Longtime UHart staff member Sebby Sorrentino, currently associate vice president of operations and CIO, remembers Andy “as a calming person. He was always approachable and easy to talk with—a great individual who was always willing to listen and find a solution for what you were looking for.”
