The University formed a Wellness Committee in August of 2008 to begin an active approach to engaging the University community in wellness through education, self-awareness, and various campus activities.
The Wellness Committee has six main goals:
- Engage the University community in the wellness initiatives
- Help employees identify their personal health risks
- Encourage personal responsibility for health and wellness
- Provide motivation and support to help employees make healthy choices
- Control healthcare costs through disease prevention
- Improve overall employee well-being
In conjunction with the University's medical insurance carrier, Aetna, as well as the University's broker, Chris Monroe, the Wellness Committee will lead these wellness initiatives.
In light of the ever-rising cost of healthcare we can all benefit from better health education and individual modifications that promote healthier lifestyles. We encourage all employees, whether participants Aetna or of other health plans, to join in these initiatives.
Wellness Programs
A comfortable work space can help you feel your best. Appropriate office ergonomics, including correct chair height, adequate equipment spacing, and good desk posture can help you and your joints stay comfortable at work.
Workstation EvaluationsUHart is partnering with Easy Pickin's Orchard in Enfield, where employees can purchase a "share" of the farm's in-season harvest of freshly picked fruits and vegetables.
Community Supported AgricultureThe University recognizes that, at times, an individual may feel unable to cope with family, social or other personal problems and that such problems can interfere with the ability to perform satisfactorily on the job. We are here to help.
