Organization Request Form

After careful review, the Blackboard Operations Team has decided to transition non-academic courses to Blackboard Organizations instead of SharePoint, Teams, or OneDrive. This change will provide faculty, staff, and students with a more efficient platform for communication and collaboration within campus groups.

Transition Timeline

Starting February 1, 2025, the Office of Academic Technology, Teaching, and Learning (ACTECH) will begin working with faculty and staff leaders to migrate non-academic courses to Blackboard Organizations. As part of this process, we will assist in converting existing non-academic courses to Ultra Course View within the new Organizations area in Blackboard.

Eligible Campus Groups

The following campus groups can request a Blackboard Organization:

  • Affinity Groups
  • Clubs & Extracurricular Groups
  • Committees
  • Departmental/School Sites (e.g., UIS Faculty Communication)
  • Study Abroad Programs

Important Notes

  • Document Repositories: Non-academic courses used solely for document storage will not be transitioned to Organizations. Instead, we encourage faculty and staff to create a SharePoint site for document management. These SharePoint sites can be linked within a Blackboard Organization for communication purposes.
  • Multimedia Storage: Non-academic sites containing video and audio files that impact Blackboard’s storage quota must be transferred to Kaltura. These files can then be linked within your Blackboard Organization.
