Murdered and Missing Indigenous Peoples Awareness Week

Monday, May 5, is Red Dress Day and National Day of Awareness for Murdered and Missing Indigenous People (#MMIP).

What you can do:

*Wear red and share your photo on social media to help raise awareness.

*Do some of your own research.  Talk to family and friends about what you learned.

Did you know:

*56% of Indigenous women experience sexual violence in the US, 96% of which is perpetrated by non-Native offenders and rarely prosecuted.

*Homicide is the third leading cause of death among Native girls and women aged 10 -24, and the fifth leading cause of death for Native women aged 25 -34.

*The National Institute of Justice reports that more than four in five Indigenous American adults (84%) have experienced violence in their lifetime.

*Indigenous women are murdered at a rate 10X higher than the national average.
