UHart Students Partner with "The President's Own" United States Marine Band

Students from the University of Hartford’s School of Communication are making their own history this spring by supporting the 250th anniversary celebration of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band—the oldest continuously active professional music organization in the country.

Through their work in Crested Communications, UHart’s student communications agency, students have collaborated with the Marine Band to develop a strategic communications campaign that honors the band’s legacy while helping it reach new audiences.

The semester-long project included:

  • Social media & website audit, competitor analysis
  • Development of a new media kit
  • Creation of a style guide, specific to “The President’s Own”
  • Social media content calendar, template designs, and strategy
  • Marketing campaign strategy to increase concert attendance and attract new supporters

“This partnership offers our students a rare and wonderful opportunity to contribute to a historic and iconic part of our nation’s history while building professionals skills and real-world experience,” said Sarah Miner, clinical associate professor and faculty advisor of Crested Communications.

Students started their client work for the Marine Band at the beginning of the semester, back in January, and are scheduled to present their final work to the Marine Band’s leadership team on Wednesday, April 30, at 11:30 a.m. in Wilde Auditorium (lower level of the Harry Jack Gray building) supporting its ongoing mission to connect Americans through music, tradition, and service.

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the client presentation. Visitors should park in D Lot.
