“Career to the Classroom Day” Brings Guest Speakers, Networking Opportunities for Students

More than a thousand University of Hartford students got to meet new mentors, network with potential colleagues, and garner real-life career advice from those who’ve blazed the trail before them.

The University’s second annual Career to the Classroom Day brought nearly 50 alumni and industry representatives to campus – either in-person or virtually – to speak with more than 50 classes from all seven of UHart’s schools and colleges. They shared their expertise on topics as varied as insurance, physical therapy, video production, psychology, robotics, and much more.

“It was a remarkable day for the University, blending academic learning with real-world insights,” said Alex Coury, associate vice president for industry partnerships and career experiences. “Not only did students gain invaluable knowledge and build their networks, but alumni also enjoyed reconnecting with the campus that helped shape their journeys.”

The day’s participants hailed from local companies such as Hartford HealthCare, Stanley Black & Decker, Hartford Steam Boiler, Travelers, Masonicare, CVS Health, and ESPN – many of which have longstanding partnerships with the University. Students in William Heiden’s “Power and Politics in America” class heard from Connecticut State Rep. Tammy Exum about how state government works and how all of us can influence that process.

The event, hosted by the Allan Center for Career and Professional Development and the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, also featured an all-day reception in the Career Studio where returning alumni and corporate partners had the chance to network with each other.

“Career to the Classroom Day has become an exciting, shared tradition for all seven colleges at UHart,” said Coury, “and one that we look forward to continuing.”
