The University of Hartford Humanities Lecture Series for Spring 2024, focusing on the theme “Fiction, Fabulation, Futurity,” continues on Monday, April 1, 5–6 p.m., in Hillyer Hall 229.
The seventh talk in the series will be a conversation with artist and educator Francis Estrada.
Born in the Philippines and currently residing in West Hartford, Francis Estrada is a visual artist and educator who explores how visual cues found in historical photographs, mass media, political propaganda, and personal archives influence or inflect social or cultural narratives and collective memory. He will present about how his research around Philippine (colonial) history and Philippine-American relations are featured in his artwork, and how he imagines alternate sets of conditions and futures.
(This lecture replaces the one by artist Shazia Sikander, who is unable to present her work for the Humanities Center due to a recent conflict in her schedule.)
The Humanities Center Lecture series is developed and led by Rashmi Viswanathan, Assistant Professor of Art History. For more information, contact Nicholas Ealy, director of the Humanities Center (ealy@hartford.edu), visit our website, or follow us on Facebook.
