CETA Professor Ivana Milanovic Appointed to ASME Fluids Engineering Division Executive Committee

Ivana Milanovic, PhD, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, CETA, has been appointed as a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Fluids Engineering Division (FED) Executive Committee (EC). Her term on the committee spans five years, during which she will assume a new role each year. This appointment marks a significant milestone in her 21-year involvement with the Fluid Mechanics Technical Committee and her fifth year on the FED Honors & Awards Committee, where she has served as Chair for two years.

At the ASME FED Summer Meeting (FEDSM) 2024 conference held in Anaheim, California, Dr. Milanovic and Dr. Sunil Kumar, a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, NYU Abu Dhabi, presented and published a paper titled ‘Just-in-Time and Iterative Learning in Thermo-Fluids.’ This work explores the impact of simulation assignments on the improvement of student comprehension, retention of material, and critical thinking in a fluid mechanics course. The study uses qualitative examples of student work and quantitative assessments, including grades, student surveys, and course evaluations, to illustrate the effectiveness of this approach.

Additionally, Dr. Milanovic co-organized the Advances in Fluids Engineering Education topic, and co-chaired the Pumping Machinery Symposium at the conference. The FEDSM 2024 conference provided a platform for international researchers and engineers to share state-of-the-art research and engage in technical interactions, focusing on fluid flow applications.
