After almost 35 years in the Hartt School Theater Technical Services, Charles “Ox” Gara will retire on Nov. 1, 2024.
Ox has been with the University since 1989, starting as a part-time technician and coming aboard full time in 2000 as Scene Shop Foreman. In those many years, Ox has seen many University milestones. He has had the good fortune to work with a group of dedicated colleagues who put the students’ needs first. He knows the University staff—and the Technical Theater staff in particular—all work toward one goal: The success of our students.
Hartt Dean Dale Merrill says, “For 35 years, the Hartt School scene shop has been graced by the exceptional craftsmanship of our master carpenter, Ox. His dedication and skill have brought to life the beautiful scenery that has captivated students, faculty, and audiences alike. As he embarks on his well-deserved retirement, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for his next journey.”
