The Hartt Saxophone Studio, led by professor Carrie Koffman, was well-represented at the International Saxophone Symposium, hosted by the United States Navy Band in Fairfax, Virginia, on Jan. 10–11, 2025. Through chamber group performances, solo presentations, and ensemble showcases, current Hartt students and alumni of the saxophone studio proudly represented the university on an international stage.
The Hartt Saxophone Ensemble performed a program of three works by Hartt alumni Dr. Shuying Li and Joseph Spence and current MM student Ashtyn Wolph. Performers of the ensemble include Aly Attenello, Evan Blitzer, Scott Brown, Rob Brown, Ronnit Dhalliwal, Michael Dubler, Hannah Hickman, Dakota Jones, Ben Levesque and Ashytn Wolph.
Current graduate students forming the saxophone quartet, Hierax (Scott Brown, Evan Blitzer, Ben Levesque, and Ashtyn Wolph), performed a program of their own. Alumni Aislinn Jakary and Garrett Evans performed together as the Event Horizon Duo.
Alumna Lauren Bagshaw and current DMA students Hannah Hickman and Chadwick Thomas performed a set of duo works, one of which was commissioned with the help of Hartt’s Foot in the Door Contemporary Ensemble and the late Glen Adsit, conductor.
Alumni Dr. Derek Granger, Hunter Hellard, Andrew MacRossie, and Jessica McCready also performed and presented as part of the symposium.
