Adjunct professor and UHart alumna Ioana Barac ’98 created five sculptural installations for the group exhibit “Five Perspectives” displayed at Central Connecticut State University.

The show is the first public exhibition of the Romanian-born artists of the RoArtConn group, which Barac co-founded with visual artists Luiza Budea, Ileana Dumitriu and Adrian Panaitisor in 2022.

Barac’s works in “Pages” and “Leaves & Petals” Series give new life to materials saved from previous public art projects from her studio, Atelier Cue. Similarly, “Flutes,” the collaborative piece with I. Dumitriu, repurposes old objects found by the authors. In all of Barac's installations in the show, the parts were adapted and new compositions were developed in the studio and finalized on-site, the assembly playing a significant role in the creative process.

The opening reception took place on Jan. 23 and included Barac’s artist talk “Ornament as Art,” to be published by the Gallery in coming weeks.

Five Perspectives, curated by RoArtConn co-founder Adrian Panaitisor, will be on display through Feb. 21. The Chen Gallery is located in Maloney Hall, Room 202, on the Central campus. Admission is free, and parking is available at Welte Garage, adjacent to the art building. Gallery hours are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. during school days.
