Department of Architecture Announces Recipients of 2025 Walter Harrison Spain Prizes

The Department of Architecture is pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 Walter Harrison Spain Prizes.  

The four prizes are given in honor of University past-President Walter Harrison, who was instrumental in the establishment and development of the University of Hartford’s Master of Architecture Program. Third-year Architecture students who have successfully completed their 2025 Study Abroad semester in Spain and presented their Social Housing Projects are eligible. Prizes were awarded at the event on Sept. 25 at the Barcelona Restaurant in West Hartford.

The Barcelona Prize is bestowed upon the Study Abroad Architecture student with the best Design Project. The Madrid and Valencia Prizes are bestowed upon the Study Abroad Architecture students with outstanding Design Projects.  And, the Sevilla Prize is bestowed upon the Study Abroad Architecture student with an outstanding Design Concept. All Projects must be timely in nature, thoroughly thought out, comprehensively developed, graphically stunning, and effectively presented. Only four awards are made per academic year.

The Barcelona Prize was awarded to Joshua Perron

The Madrid Prize was awarded to Jillian Christensen

The Valencia Prize was awarded to Reilly McGrath

The Sevilla Prize was awarded to Aidan Plourde

Student participants in the 2025 Study Abroad Program in Spain included: Claudia Ugarte, Natalia Vicencio, Aidan Plourde, Alexander Wolfinger, Cindy Mohan, James Totten, Reilly McGrath, Joshua Perron, Jillian Christensen, Yezmarie King, Adriana Cabrera, Amaiya Lu, Jacquelyn Palaguacchi, and Alijah Peoples.
