Wear Purple Day

Domestic Violence Month Image

On Thursdays, Oct. 2 and Oct. 23, we invite all members of our campus community to participate in Wear Purple Day to stand against domestic violence.

Wearing purple is a visible way to show that you:

  • Stand against domestic violence.
  • Support survivors and their right to safety, dignity, and healing.
  • Commit to speaking out and taking action to help stop violence in our communities.

By joining together, we send a powerful message that domestic violence has no place here. Your participation helps create a campus culture of care, respect, and accountability.

How to participate:

  • Wear purple on October 2 and October 23.
  • Encourage your classmates, colleagues, and friends to join you.
  • Take a photo in your purple and share it to raise awareness and post on your social media!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Each October, communities across the nation recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) as a time to honor survivors, raise awareness, and strengthen our collective commitment to ending abuse. Domestic violence affects individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and relationships, and its impact reaches far beyond the home—into our classrooms, workplaces, and communities.

Throughout the month, we encourage everyone to learn more, speak out, and show support for survivors. Together, we can foster a culture of respect, safety, and accountability, and work toward a future free from violence.

Together, we can break the silence, raise awareness, and stand united against domestic violence.

If you know of incidents of domestic violence happening on campus, please report them to the Office of Equity and Opportunity, Kenna Grant, AVP Equity & Opportunity at: mckenna@hartford.edutitle9@hartford.edu osubmit this report form.
