As a first-generation college graduate and the daughter of parents from rural Mississippi—a father with only a fifth-grade education and a mother who earned her GED after raising seven children—this recognition represents their sacrifices and the power of education to transform lives. It reminds me that our beginnings don’t define us; they build us. And it’s my purpose to keep opening doors for others, creating spaces where brilliance, resilience, and legacy can thrive.”
