Start your holiday season with two timeless traditions presented by The Hartt School—an experience that combines artistry, elegance, and festive cheer. Some upcoming event highlights include:
The Nutcracker Ballet
From Dec. 5–14, immerse yourself in the magical world of The Nutcracker, a beloved holiday classic that has enchanted audiences for over a century. With Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, dazzling costumes, and breathtaking choreography, this ballet tells the story of Clara, her mysterious Nutcracker, and a journey through the Land of Sweets. Did you know The Nutcracker premiered in 1892 in St. Petersburg, Russia, and has since become one of the most performed ballets worldwide during the holiday season? It’s a tradition that brings families together year after year—and now you can experience it live, performed by The Hartt School’s talented young artists at the Hartt Community Division.
While the performances require tickets, the Hartt Community Division would like to extend an invitation to all University of Hartford faculty and staff to come watch a free performance of The Nutcracker on Friday, Dec. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Millard Auditorium. This performance is an abbreviated version of our full-length performance for a local public school but there are plenty of seats available for UHart staff and faculty. If interested, please email atarnowsk@hartford.edu by Dec. 11 to reserve your seat. For all other performances, please reserve your tickets via the Box Office link here.
Handel’s Messiah
On Friday, Dec. 12 join us for Handel’s Messiah, a masterpiece that has stood the test of time since its debut in 1742. Famous for its triumphant “Hallelujah” chorus, this oratorio is a profound celebration of hope and joy. Fun fact: when Messiah was first performed in Dublin, it was so popular that ladies were asked not to wear hoop skirts to make room for more attendees! Today, it remains one of the most cherished works in classical music, and hearing it live is an unforgettable experience—especially when performed with the expertise and passion of The Hartt School. Hartt Orchestra will perform this masterpiece on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Both performances showcase The Hartt School’s exceptional quality and artistry, highlighting the incredible talent of our students. These are holiday classics you won’t want to miss—perfect for creating lasting memories with family and friends.
The Nutcracker will be held in Millard Auditorium on Dec. 5–7 and Dec. 12–14. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday performances are at 2 p.m. For tickets (which need to be reserved in advance), please visit the Box Office link here.
Handel’s Messiah will be held in Lincoln Theater on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. This concert is free and no tickets are required.
