The Hartt Community Division celebrates a generous gift from Rita and Thomas Weidman, named the Malgosia Lis Hartt Community Division Endowed Scholarship Fund.
This generous gift will be used to provide scholarship assistance to students with financial need who study piano in the Suzuki program at the Hartt Community Division.
In celebrating the immense generosity of this donation, the story behind the gift is also worth noting. The Weidman’s would like to honor Malgosia Lis, an HCD department chair and piano teacher for over 30 years who taught their daughters, Gianna and Monica. In conversation with Rita Weidman, she explains that “Malgosia is a fine teacher and friend. She was so influential on my daughters’ lives and we can think of no one more worthy of this honor!”
It is the Weidman’s hope that this gift will inspire others to do the same and provide other students with the opportunity to study the performing arts at the highest level without finances being an impediment.
