Spring 2026 Writing Contests

Every year, the Department of English & Modern Languages holds writing competitions in multiple categories to recognize work written in introductory classes (like WRT 110, 111, and 210); critical essays on literature, art, and film; interdisciplinary essays; and original poems, plays, personal essays, and stories. And we are now accepting submissions!

Did you write a great essay in WRT 110, one or two years back? Send it in! Do you have any poems or stories tucked away on your computer? Send them in! How about any essays that address more than one discipline? The competitions are free and open to any University of Hartford student and we will give away thousands of dollars in prize money. Why not take a chance?

The deadline for entry is Friday, March 6 at 5 p.m.
