Distinguished Teaching Award for Part-Time Faculty

The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce the Distinguished Teaching for Part-Time Faculty Award. This award is a recognition of the invaluable contributions part-time faculty make to the University of Hartford’s academic community. Up to five faculty will be selected for this award, each of whom will receive a $500 monetary award in appreciation of their teaching excellence. In addition, award recipients will be formally recognized during the University Kickoff at the start of the spring term, where we will celebrate their achievements with the broader campus community. 

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, the part-time faculty member must have taught at least 30 credits on part-time status at the University of Hartford.*

Application Documentation

Applications must include the following:

  1. A curriculum vitae;
  2. A list of the last 30 credits taught on part-time status at the University of Hartford, including course title, course code and number, and semester/year the course was taught;
  3. A statement of your course high impact teaching practices and/or philosophy of teaching and learning (1-2 pages, maximum);
  4. A copy of the syllabus from your most recent course taught at the University of Hartford;
  5. Five sample student course evaluations from the past 30-credits of your part-time teaching;
  6. Two letters of support from former students in a course within the past 30-credits of your part-time teaching;
  7. A letter from your direct supervisor (e.g., Department Chair, Division Director, or Associate Dean). This letter should cite evidence of teaching effectiveness (teaching evaluations, classroom observation, departmental assessment results, etc.). 

Applications will be evaluated by a committee which includes representatives from the full-time faculty, part-time faculty, the Faculty Senate and the Office of the Provost.

*A part-time faculty member who receives the Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award is not eligible to apply again until they have taught an additional 30 part-time credits at the University of Hartford after receiving the award
