Receiving your cap and gown is an exciting part of reaching this milestone! Before you order cap and gown, there are several steps you need to take to officially apply for graduation.
Ordering Your Cap and Gown
Online ordering of cap and gown for the May 2025 Commencement ceremonies has ended. If you will be attending and did not order your regalia, please email commence@hartford.edu with the following information using the subject line "Late Order":
- Last Name
- Student ID #
- College/School Name
- Degree Name
Those who opted for campus delivery when ordering their cap and gown should pick up their regalia at the Campus Store (bookstore) during the following times:
Monday, May 12: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wednesday, May 14: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Undergraduate degree recipients and master's degree recipients will receive custom University of Hartford "keeper" gowns, which do not need to be returned. These gowns with University of Hartford seals embroidered in red are manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. Doctoral candidates will receive a custom rental gown with hood that needs to be returned; the tam can be kept. All graduates will be given a degree-specific color tassel with a University of Hartford "H." Souvenir red-and-white tassels with the 2025 date may be purchased as an option for $12 each.
Also available for purchase will be a Stole of Gratitude ($38), giving you the chance to thank those who helped you on your educational journey. Wear it for the ceremony and then present it to the person who helped you make your dream a reality. International stoles are also available ($47) for students who studied abroad or who would like to recognize their home country. First-Generation Students
Are you the first person in your family to graduate from college? This is an amazing accomplishment that deserves to be celebrated in a big way! Save the date UHart’s 2025 First- Generation Student Celebration: Wednesday, May 14, from 5 to 7 p.m.in GSU North and South Café. All first-generation students who attend will be presented with a special cord marking your achievements. Be on the lookout for an email invitation soon. If you are unable to attend this event, you can also pick up a first-generation cord at the Campus Store on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; on May 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; or at Commencement on May 18.

Legacy Students
Legacy students are those who have grandparents, parents, or other family members who also have attended the University of Hartford. If you are a legacy student, you can pick up a legacy medal to wear at Commencement. Medals will be available at the Campus Store on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; on May 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; or at Commencement on May 18. Complete Legacy Medal Form
