Here are 12 steps to a winning research proposal for any agency, federal or non-federal. As the author, George Hazelrigg, states: "These twelve steps are nothing more than common sense..." But they are worth all the attention you can give them.

Essentials of Proposal Development

The University also offers support through a citiprogram module: "Essentials of Proposal Development. 

Topics covered include:

  • Crafting a Proposal Development Plan
  • Creating the Proposal Narrative
  • Tables, Forms, and Documents
  • Preparing the Budget and Budget Justification
  • Understanding the Proposal Review Process

Steps to Access the module:

Step 2: Log into your CITI Program account. (Make sure you have added University of Hartford as your institutional affiliation.)
Step 3: Beside University of Hartford, click on “View Courses.”
Step 4: Scroll down to the bottom of the page where it says “Learner Tools for University of Hartford.” Click “Add a course.”
Step 5: On the “Select Curriculum” page, fill out questions 1-6 (Note: only question 3 is required).
Step 6: Under question 6, Essentials of Grant Proposal Development (EGPD) it asks, “Would you like to take the Essentials of Grant Proposal Development course?” Select “Yes.”
Step 7: Complete the modules at your own pace.
