Hayden Schenck ’25 knew from a young age that she wanted to help others. A double major in criminal justice and psychology, Hayden says, “I would stay up late on the weekends watching true crime with my grandmother—and that's when the spark ignited.” Now she is heading to Northeastern University to pursue a master’s in counseling psychology.

Hayden says her UHart professors helped guide her throughout her entire college career. She says Assistant Professor of Psychology Jannell Carroll especially helped to prepare her for this moment. “She there for me when it felt like nobody else was,” she says. “Because of her, I learned how to advocate for myself more and grew stronger as a student.”

Hayden also attributes a summer internship as a crisis clinician with helping her to bridge the gap between psychology and criminal justice. “It solidified what I wanted my next steps to be and I'm so thankful to have that experience under my belt,” she says. Hayden says that taking classes that she was drawn to also helped to prepare her for graduate school.

As she reminisces about her four years at UHart, Hayden advises incoming students is to soak it all in. She says finals week at the library has always been one of her favorite memories. “There’s something so peaceful about studying there when it's 2 a.m., even when you're cramming for a final. Your time here will move faster than you realize and soon you’ll be the ones moving your tassel from right to left.”
