Lakeisha Mitchell DNP'26, a dedicated nurse educator, is set to begin her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) journey at the University of Hartford this fall. With a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) focused on Nursing Education from UHart, Lakeisha has honed her ability to engage with learners in face-to-face, clinical, and online environments.

Lakeisha currently works as a Nurse Educator in a new health science program, where she developed the curriculum and instruction for a Certified Nursing Assistant course at the high school level. Thanks to her innovative approach, 92% of her students passed their state examination on their first attempt.

Lakeisha credits UHart with her success in her current role. “My ability to engage learners through evidence-based research in the learning environment and tailor instruction to individual student’s needs, is a result of the high-quality education I received during the MSN program,” she says.

Lakeisha’s passion for teaching also led her to a role as an adjunct faculty member, where she successfully developed the instructional design for a new college health science course entitled "Medical Law and Ethics."

Her passion for teaching nursing practices has led her to the next step in her education here at UHart. “I'm pursuing my DNP to continue to research healthcare practices to better improve quality patient care and educate the next generation of nurses,” she says. “Earning my DNP will open the door for me to lead, mentor, and teach nurses in graduate programs in the near future,” she says.

Earning my DNP will open the door for me to lead, mentor, and teach nurses in graduate programs in the near future.
