The End of the COVID-19 National and Public Health Emergencies
On April 10, 2023, President Biden terminated the national emergency, and May 11, 2023, served as the official conclusion of the COVID-19 national public health emergency. As these emergencies are now in the past, various temporary changes implemented in response to the pandemic have also been discontinued.
Employees are encouraged to stay updated on the latest CDC guidance to stay informed about COVID-19. The University of Hartford has ceased contact tracing and case tracking within its community. However, essential resources like vaccines, treatments, and testing remain accessible, and the Human Resources Development Office remains available to assist employees when necessary.
Essential Information for Employees

- If you are unable to complete your job remotely or are feeling so ill that you are unable to work, contact your department chair, dean, or supervisor
- Schedule/perform a COVID test

Since 2022–23 academic year, COVID vaccinations and boosters are strongly recommended, but not required, for University of Hartford students, faculty, and staff.
This decision from UHart's COVID Steering Committee comes after much thoughtful discussion, the continued monitoring of public health conditions locally and beyond, and consultation with our state, education, and health care partners. The State Department of Public Health has opted not to add the COVID vaccine to its list of required vaccinations for schooling, including K–12, and Connecticut state colleges and universities are not requiring vaccination.
Vaccine status does not need to be updated with the University at this time.
At the University of Hartford, ensuring the well-being of our Hawks and maintaining transparency regarding COVID-19 protocols and updates are paramount to us. We are dedicated to promoting a healthy environment for all members of our community.
