Capitol Symphonic Winds is an adult symphonic band which began in 1992 and is comprised of music educators and other members of the greater Hartford community, along with students from the University of Hartford and other local colleges. Adult members represent a wide variety of professions including music and non-music educators, physicians, lawyers, judges, computer programmers, nurses, bookkeepers, financial planners, carpenters, engineers, and entrepreneurs. The group rehearses weekly under the leadership of conductor and Hartt professor James Jackson. “Cap Winds” performs advanced concert band literature with at least two concerts each year.

Audition Information

If you are interested in joining Capitol Symphonic Winds, please contact hcdaud@hartford.edu. Current members of Capitol Symphonic Winds do not need to re-audition for the ensemble.

Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble

The Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble (GHYWE) is composed of advanced high-school  students. GHYWE performs advanced wind-ensemble repertoire, including traditional, modern, and new works.

Audition Information

Auditions for this academic-year ensemble are held in June at our annual Ensemble Placement Day. At the audition, students are expected to perform scales, a solo or etudes demonstrating current skill level, and sight-read a piece (provided at the audition).
 
Auditions for our large ensemble program are accepted on a rolling basis during the academic year. All new students must audition to be placed in the proper ensemble. To learn more about Ensemble Placement Day in June and sign up, visit the link here

Philharmonia performs twice annually: fall and spring.

Philharmonia Winds is for advanced high-school and very advanced middle-school students. The ensemble prepares and performs challenging repertoire in a positive and encouraging environment. Co-conducted by Caitlin Yovino Serpliss and Thomas Scavone.

Harmony Winds is an intermediate wind ensemble for advanced middle school and early high school students looking to refine their ensemble skills, technique, and perform quality repertoire at a high level. Co-conducted by Caitlin Yovino Serpliss and Thomas Scavone.
